Dr. Childs joined the University of Arkansas in 2006. As the Division of Agriculture's Assistant Vice President for Technology Commercialization and patent attorney, she manages all aspects of the intellectual property portfolio for the Division of Agriculture.

Dr. Childs practiced patent law as a partner in the Chicago office of Michael Best & Friedrich before joining the University, and is admitted to practice in Arkansas, Illinois, and the United States Patent and Trademark Office. She earned her law degree cum laude from Loyola University – Chicago School of Law; her Ph.D. in Genetics (plant molecular biology) from North Carolina State University; and her B.A. in biochemistry from Rice University. In her previous life, she worked on issues from forestry biotechnology to pet beds and jewelry settings.

Dr. Childs would be a seventh-generation Arkansan, except that her parents moved to Oklahoma for technology-based jobs when they graduated from the University of Arkansas. Realizing this trend continues today, Dr. Childs is interested in making it easier for others to find technology-based jobs in Arkansas.
